2012 Republican Presidential Primaries: Or Why I am a Libertarian

I've been following some of the more publicized political events of the past few weeks and have come to a conclusion: The Republican Party has lost its way. From where I sit in Saneville, it would seem that the only candidate hopeful that has any idea what would truly, honestly work in America AND solve the multitude of problems that besiege her is Ron Paul. He's the same today as he was yesterday and he'll be the same even if he's a Libertarian candidate on the ballot.

Foreign policy? Stay out of other country's business; protect our borders; bring home foreign-deployed troops; knock off the "preemptive strikes" and war mongering.

Tax policy? Stop building so many wasteful, illegal, and unconstitutional programs at the Federal level; level and then lower taxes with a tax on purchased goods rather than income; eliminate the IRS.

Economic policy? End the Federal Reserve; allow markets to fluctuate/correct to prevent bubbles, not encourage them; let free market decide actual costs and stop subsidies of ALL types, not just party favorites.

Social policy? Government has no business dictating morality, leave that to Church, home, and community; stop all forms of social legislation/dictation; give individuals and churches have the ability to finance social welfare.

Finally, I'll be frank on my personal views of the other contenders:

Mitt Romney: I've been told by several of my LDS friends that his is the defacto choice for Mormons. I completely disagree. I think he's a good person. I think he has strong values. However, I know his political ties are strong with special interests and I'd rather not elect someone in that position again. I'm tired of status quo governing by interests. I'd recommend Ron Paul over Mitt even if Ron Paul doesn't make the Republican ticket.

John Huntsman, Jr.: Let me begin by saying I'm a HUGE fan of his father. However, I'm not voting for his son. I just don't see him as the free market true capitalist this country needs to reign in the sprawl of government created by our current and past two party elected officials.

Michelle Bachman: Where do I begin. She's just not my cup of tea (pun intended again), politically or otherwise and she'd LOVE to make her way the only way. I disagree with anyone who thinks that way, regardless of their way.
